Over the weekend, you were to have read Chapter 4-6, which covered the entirety and basics of World War One. This week, you'll be going over what you have read and also going a bit more in-depth on the subject matter you've already read.

Monday
Today you will form into your groups that were assigned at the beginning of the semester, and collaborate on the causes and effects of World War One. The entire group will create a digital timeline (click link for example), which will address the causes and effects of World War One.
  • You can utilize MovieMaker or PhotoStory within the classroom. The timeline should run from 2-3 minutes. Everyone in your group should

participate in some form or fashion, if there are any participation disputes, please contact me. There should be a narrative voice-over, at least 5 transition or video effects, and a title slide. The video must also include background music, photos, graphics, and for extra credit, a video.
    • The timeline could include:
      • Imperialism
      • National Unrest between various nations
      • Effects on technology
      • Effects on political institutions

Tuesday
For today's assignment, you will create a podcast on the various pivotal battles that took place during World War One. Essentially, you'll be taking the role of a journalist reporting all the facts and figures that occurred during that particular battle. Start off here and here, to find the facts on these particular battles and then continue your search. Please provide additional references for your additional sources.
  • You will utilize our iTunes program with our microphones in order to record a 1-2 minute report on the battle.
  • Make sure to first write a script on either paper or a Word document, this will ensure that mistakes will be kept to a minimum.
  • Don't be afraid to add a little flair or drama!
  • After everyone has completed their particular project, students will upload their podcast onto the Wiki page so the entire class can have access to the podcasts.

  • Students will then listen to at least 5 of the podcasts, and then write a reflective response at least one paragraph long on that particular podcast.
  • 5 is the minimum for a minimum participation grade, more responses garners more participation points.
    • Make sure to include at least three of the five points in your report:
      • Casualties
      • Prominent Generals or figureheads involved
      • Nations involved
      • Strategic significance of this battle
      • Dates and locations

Wednesday
For today's assignment, you will create a PowerPoint that will cover this weeks chapter. In other words, your PowerPoint will cover the major points of the chapter. There doesn't have to be complete sentences, but there must be adequate information pertaining to the chapter and I will be grading for spelling. The PowerPoint can definitely be used as a study guide for the upcoming exam, and could quite possibly be used within the exam, only if EVERYONE submits their PowerPoint.
  • Please try to hit at least 5 major points of the war.
  • Please have the PowerPoint be at least 10 slides long.

Please refer to this timeline to refer to corresponding years and months that are relevant to the pertaining chapter.

After finishing your PowerPoint, please find another student's PowerPoint and look it over in order to see if it's up to snuff.

Thursday
For today's assignment, please login to your BrainPOP account, and complete the following two modules on World War One and the League of Nations.
  • For the World War One module, watch the video and take the quiz at the end of the video. Make sure to print out the results and turn them in tomorrow in the Assignment bin.
  • For the League of Nations module, watch the video and take the quiz at the end of the video. Make sure to print out the results and turn them in tomorrow in the Assignment bin.
  • After completing the two assignments, you will write a two page paper on the cause and effect World War One had on the League of Nations. It will be turned in at the end of class.

Friday
For today's assignment you will be watching videos and reading articles that pertain to the implementation of poison gas on the fields of World War One. Students will watch these various videos and articles, and then return to the Wiki page to evaluate and reflect on what they have witnessed.
  • Watch this video, which provides a visual of the effects of poison gas on a soldier.
  • Watch this video, which shows the implementation of poison gas in action.

  • Then read this article about the effects of poison gas.

  1. I'll provide a Wiki page labeled "Was it necessary to implement poison gas on the battlefield?", where you'll provide your reflection and evaluation. If you provide a yes answer, explain why it needed, and if you provide a no response, explain why it wasn't needed. Please provide at least a three paragraphed response.
  2. After you have finished writing your own, please read at least two other responses and provide a one paragraph response. Try to at least find one response that is opposite of your own.
  3. I will not be grading this based on WHAT you answered, but HOW you answered. Please back up your answer with your own opinion and facts, and I will obviously grade for grammar.
